Grandmother's Glasses

The preschool students have done a great job learning the fingerplay that we say each morning before we eat our snack. We wait until everyone has their snack and then we say.......

These are grandmother's glasses

This is grandmother's hat, this is the way she folds her hands and puts them in her lap.

These are grandfather's glasses, This is grandfather's hat.

This is the way he folds his arms just like that!
Ask your child to say this fingerplay for you at home!! It's very entertaining.

Clean up is always interesting!

This morning we read the book White Rabbits Color Book. It's a story about a rabbit that mixes red, yellow, and blue to make other colors. After we read the book, we got out the fingerpaints and mixed colors ourselves. Whether we used our fingers or paint brushes, the colors were beautiful.

We have liftoff!!

The school year is underway and we have had a great first two weeks. The morning classes have worked on some colorful collages while learning how to use glue. They make a cheerful addition to our classroom.

The afternoon pre-k class has been busy making name necklaces, playing math games, and writing numbers and letters. The biggest excitement in the afternoon is the opportunity to play on the playground with the kindergarten and first grade class.

Next week we will start our Community Helpers theme in pre-k and our Cookie theme in preschool.

Bubbles, bubbles

We started our Bubble theme in preschool this week. On Monday and Tuesday we had a great time during art making bubble prints. All of the children enjoyed blowing bubbles with the special paint mixture and then "catching" the bubbles on their paper. It was fun to watch what happened as the bubbles popped on the paper. During this theme we will make tiny bubbles (with baking soda and vinegar), blow bubbles outside, and finally we will make human sized bubbles! What a great way to end the school year!

Center Time Activities

Here are some of the activities we have been completing during center time in Pre-K. The Color Wheel was new today and so exciting. The children used eye droppers and liquid watercolor paint to make a color wheel to take home. Another fine motor activity that we have been working on is spooning tiny birds into a tray. I also made a book on how to draw a chick. We have been using acrylic letters to spell out our names at the light table.

The 3 year old class has finished up our picnic theme. Here is a picture of our picnic bulletin board. It puts me in the mood for summer!

Transportation and Ocean Life

The three year old class is learning about different modes of transportation. This week during art we made some tire track print paintings. The children also made some name trains. We are working on learning the letters that are in our names and what order the letters come in. Check out the cool trains we made.

We are learning more about ocean life in the pre-k class. This week we read Eric Carle's Mister Seahorse and sponge-painted some beautiful seahorses. We have been watching some interesting videos about different ocean creatures. We got to watch a seahorse give birth and a starfish eat!
